As the curtain rose on "Legally Blonde the Musical" at Andrew Jackson Hall in the Tennessee Performing Arts Center Tuesday evening, the audience was treated to a special guest star they weren't expecting.

Laura Bell Bundy, who originated the role of Elle Woods on Broadway and received the Tony nomination for the performance, found herself back on stage, reunited with her signature pink and her Chihuahua, Bruiser.

The actress that began her career on Broadway as Amber Von Tussle in the original cast of Hairspray, is now living in Nashville and pursuing a career in the recording industry.

However, for the rest of this week Bundy will continue to join the cast of the national tour during the evening performances of "Legally Blonde."

Bundy has a tremendous vocal range, and she leads the cast with definite enthusiasm that radiates from her voice.

For any fans of the motion picture, "Legally Blonde the Musical" is a must see. The Tony nominated score features delightful music that will bring audiences to their feet.

The choreography is beyond expectations. It takes the funny moments from the motion picture, like the "Bend and Snap," and turns it into a new level of comedy that you can only find in musical theater.

An interesting thing that the writers have done with the show is how they incorporate theatrical puns along with the comic humor of the show. Elle is supported during the show by a Greek Chorus of her Delta Nu sisters who chime in with melody and insight in the background. It was a clever take on theater style, while keeping in with the sorority jokes.

The costumes, which also received a Tony nomination, are genius. They make a definite separation between the Greek life of the college students at The University of California, Los Angeles and the demanding nature of a Harvard education.

The performance is underscored by a traditional orchestration highlighted with a rock feel. The songs are very catchy and humorous and they integrate the story and bring it to the stage.

The cutest additions to the stage are the canine companions, Rufus and Bruiser, who are probably the most well trained animals you will ever see in the theater. The two lovable canines have some of the most heart-warming scenes.

All in all, the story focuses on how a completely unlikely person can fulfill their dreams as long as they put their mind to focus on the goal they have their heart set on.

"Legally Blonde the Musical" will be continuing its run with matinee and evening performances until June 28. For tickets, please visit TPAC
