Scholarships given by Project Working Mom this year will make it easier for parents to get or finish their degrees and set an example for their children.

The Project has given out $4 million to working moms over the past two years, with over 120,000 moms applying for the scholarship, and this year, it has changed its name to "Project Working Moms … and Dads, Too!" to make working fathers eligible for the scholarships as well.

"Project Working Mom ... and Dads, Too!" scholarships are for single and married working mothers and fathers who are interested in enrolling in an accredited online degree program through one of the five participating online colleges.. The scholarships will total up to $2 million again this year. The money will be given as 65 full-ride scholarships to the five sponsoring colleges-Ashford University, Capella University, Everest University, Virginia College Online and Ashworth College.

With today's economy, dads need financial help to go to school just as badly as moms, and there is no reason that they should not get their chance as well. This scholarship could not have come at a better time for parents of either sex who are trying to raise a family and get an education to better their financial situations, especially those who have to do it on their own.

According the U.S. Census bureau, of the over two million single fathers in the country, only 16 percent of them have a bachelor's degree or higher.

Project Working Mom was launched as a response to the statistics of mothers in need, but the statistics that indicate they are a population in need clearly apply to fathers, single or married, as well.

To apply, working moms and dads must complete an application at projectworkingmom.com or elearners.com/projectworkingmom and submit an essay outlining their education and career goals as well as explaining how an online program will enable them to achieve those goals. The deadline for applications is April 30. This is an excellent opportunity for parents to get their degrees without having to pay their entire tuition out-of-pocket. Also, since the scholarships are for online universities, parents do not have to give up their jobs or their time with their families. With this scholarship, time and money are less of a concern.

I believe that the recipients of this scholarship are sure to deserve it, because it is a scholarship for those who want to make a difference not only in their lives, but also in the lives of their already existing families. Not only will they have the potential for their financial situations to improve, but they will be someone their own children can look up to.
