The Boomers prepare to rock out on the Main Street square.

Main Street will continue to host its Friday Night Concert Series with a community-wide pep rally for MTSU'S Blue Raider's football team as they prepare to play Maryland Saturday.

The concert will be held on Sept. 5 and will feature The Boomers, who will perform their style of American blues and rock.

The free concert will be held at the public square from 6:30 p.m. until 9:30 p.m..

Main Street's Friday Night Live Concert Series is a way to promote the Downtown Square and community.

"I think that [the series] is a really great opportunity to embrace the community while supporting the local venues and society," said Nikki Juliano, assistant manager of MTSU athletic communications.

The pep rally will feature MTSU'S Lightning, the MTSU cheerleaders and band.

"Friday Night Live and downtown Murfreesboro is an ideal venue for celebrating our football team," said Richard Gabel, executive director of Main Street Murfreesboro and Rutherford County.

This Friday is also a way to celebrate "the return of MTSU students to Murfreesboro, and showcasing our community spirit," Gabel said.

Main Street Murfreesboro is a non-profit organization committed to maintaining, enhancing and promoting the historic downtown as the heart of the community.

The Boomers have performed around the United Sates and feature a harmonica, keyboard, guitar and drums. Concertgoers can enjoy the flavor of ZZ Top, the Allman Brothers and B.B. King.

The performances for the series are typically "from all around the board," said Kathleen Herzog, event coordinator for Main Street Murfreesboro and Rutherford County.

The series has featured swing bands, country music, blues and rock. Last months perfumers performed songs from Motown, Gladys Knight and Beyonce'.

Last month's concert was widely attended and Herzog said this Friday night's concert will have several thousand people in attendance.

"The turnout has been huge this year," Herzog said. "We had to close the streets last month."

Concertgoers are encouraged to wear MTSU blue to receive special savings from participating restaurants and retail stores downtown.

Participating stores will have a blue decal in the store's window indicating its participation.

Concertgoers should bring their own lawn chairs for seating.
