Hall of fame inductions Saturday
Five new members will be inducted into the Blue Raider Hall of Fame before MT takes on Maryland in football Saturday.
Kelly Holcomb (football), Joe Campbell (football), Jerry Beck (basketball), John DoDoo (track and field) and Paul Goebel (tennis) will be inducted into the hall of fame at 3:30 p.m. at the Kennon Sports Hall of Fame Building in front of Floyd Stadium.
Holcomb, Campbell, Beck, DoDoo and Goebel will join the 97 other members of the Hall of Fame to bring the total number of inductees to 102.
The ceremony is open to the public and will take place before the Blue Raiders take on the ACC's Maryland Terrapins at Floyd Stadium.
ASU sweeps SBC awards
Following its impressive win over Big 12 team Texas A&M, the Arkansas State Red Wolves earned all three of the Sun Belt Conference Player of the Week awards.
Quarterback Corey Leonard was named SBC Offensive Player of the Week after putting up 160 yards on 15 of 28 passing with one touchdown with no interceptions and 86 rushing yards on the Aggies.
The defensive nod went to linebacker Ben Owens. Owens finished the game with seven tackles, a fumble recovery, an interception and a sack.
Kicker Josh Arauco kicked four field goals in the 18-14 win to lock up the special teams award.
MT names new Associate AD for Compliance
Daryl Simpson was selected as the Associate Athletic Director of Compliance earlier this week, replacing Michael Moleta, who now works with the NCAA Compliance Office.
Simpson previously worked as the Assistant Athletic Director for Compliance at North Texas, a position he held for the past two years.
His hiring brings him back to MT where he had served as a graduate assistant in the MT compliance office in 2004 and 2005.
He graduated from Northern Arizona with a bachelor's degree in hotel and restaurant management in 2002 before completing his master's degree in sports management at MT in 2005.
