New virus plagues campus e-mail

A new email virus has been found on campus. It arrives as an email claiming to be a patch from the "Customer Support Center Robot." The message is a fake and the "patch" is actually the virus.

Tests indicate that MTSU's TrendMicro antivirus product detects and quarantines this virus and IDT is working to prevent any new occurrences.

IDT warns that users still need to use safe email practices including never clicking on attachments without knowing whom they are from. IDT also asks that students make sure that their antivirus software is up-to-date and that the latest patches for their operating system have been downloaded.

For more information contact IDT helpdesk at 898-5345.
