Brittany Frey, MTSU alumna, recently rejoiced in the opening of her own Plato's Closet retail store located in Murfreesboro.

During Frey's time at MTSU, she majored in recording industry management. She began working part time at Plato's Closet in Cool Springs in the summer of 2005. In 2006, Frey was made manager of the store due to her strong work ethics, which were recognized by Jackson Miller and co-owner Glen Miller.

"Work is important to Brittany [Frey] because she is driven by both her desire for long-term success and her need to do the right thing," said Glen Miller. "This balance makes her an excellent businessperson, which her customers and staff recognize and respond to," Miller said.

Miller also went on to say that Frey benefitted from her course work and the opportunities MTSU offered her outside of the classroom.

As of now, Frey is co-owner of Plato's Closet in Cool Springs and Murfreesboro, and hopes to have a grand opening in the middle of February since the store is only open to buy.

When selling clothes there is no appointment required nor is there any wait for clothes to sell. However, in order to sell the clothing, the condition must be good and in style.

In addition to clothing, Plato's Closet buys and sells items such as jewelry, belts, books, CDs and DVDs.

"There wasn't any cool stores so we had to open one in Murfreesboro for college students living on a budget," said Frey, co-owner of Plato's Closet. "Basically this store is for them and the community."

The spark for Plato's Closet started out as a recycling business idea created by Lynn and Dennis Blum from Columbus, Ohio. Their teenage son came up with the name Plato from the Greek Philosopher and his preservation theories. Today, Plato's Closet is dominating North America with over 200 locations.

The inventory for every Plato's Closet comes from sales, which Frey stressed as crucial for the all of the store's survival.

Plato's Closet sells everything 70 percent less than the actual price and gives 30 to 40 percent back in cash. The store also accepts all seasons anytime throughout the year, along with any brand. Some of the styles featured in the store are Abercrombie & Fitch, Aeropostale, Old Navy, Hollister and Converse shoes.

"Plato's appeals to lots of people, whether or not they are currently students," said Miller. "It allows people to get cash on the spot for clothes they no longer wear or to change their wardrobe frequently at a fraction of the cost they would have in the mall."
