Here is where I begin with the traditional "Welcome Back! With any luck, all your hopes, dreams and wishes came true over the winter break!"
Then again, I've never been much for tradition.
So instead, I'll let the maniacal laughter of unfinished class schedules, book prices and cold weather give a more fitting welcome to the beginning of the spring semester.
Spring will mark my seventh semester at Sidelines - as a writer, editor and now as editor in chief. To be honest, despite my experience, dedication and complete confidence in my ability to perform (as editor in chief you dirty minded reader), I am still terrified.
Our paper serves a huge campus community including undergraduates, graduates, faculty, staff, administration, alumni, parents and Murfreesboro residents. All these people and we only have a staff of around 20. Are you getting scared too?
MTSU: you are trusting 20 people to know what you want to read and see in your newspaper. With a little over 21,000 undergraduates, that boils down to about 1,050 students per staff member.
Seriously, think about it - 20 people cannot carry such a massive weight. We need help.
Our editorial staff is experienced and excellent at their jobs. They have worked their butts off to provide to you, so all I ask is to give them a little back. Send us letters, news tips, upcoming events, pictures, video, audio and angry notes about what you hate (or like).
Even better, come and write for us. If you are a freshman and want to get involved, there is nothing better than joining our dysfunctional family.
Juniors and seniors, as you sit in your upper division classes and realize "My God! Employers won't take me seriously without any practical experience and some attempt at a portfolio!" come and work for us. You get clips, we get content and everyone gets happy. FYI, we also do practicum credit.
Recruitment is one of my biggest goals for the semester. I have worked myself to death for this publication. I've watched my colleagues, past and present, do the same. I hold nothing but the utmost respect for the students who try to do something with their college career.

It's called a column. Columns are meant to be informal and yes, sometimes blog-like. This is an informal article. No hard journalism here. Why don't you put your money where your mouth is and work for Sidelines. (Continued…)
