NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) _ The aquatics director at a Nashville-area YMCA has been fired following the drowning death of a 7-year-old boy last month.
Phil Newman, a spokesman for the YMCA of Middle Tennessee, said Clay Beazley's firing was "not related to the specific events on June 8." Newman would not elaborate on the reasons for Beazley's termination.
Christian Gordon, an Ohio resident visiting his father, died on June 8 after a lifeguard pulled his body from the bottom of the outdoor pool. Lifeguards and a nurse attempted CPR, but Gordon was later pronounced dead at a hospital.
A lifeguard at the facility has resigned and another has been placed on paid leave pending the outcome of an investigation.
Gordon was one of five youths who drowned in Tennessee in a little over a week in June.
