Star parties will resume Sept. 3, starting the new semester off with JanaRuth Ford, an MTSU physics and astronomy professor, discussing "A Tour of the Summer Triangle."

"Star Parties are for education and public outreach purposes," Higgins said. "To help the community learn about science, space and astronomy, and also to have fun."

Tomorrow's party will begin at 6:30 p.m. in Room 102 in the Wiser-Patton Science Hall. The event is free for the public and will include Ford's lecture, slated to last 30 to 45-minutes, concluding with an outdoor telescope observing session.

"We have been having excellent turnouts the past couple of years, in part because of better advertising, and also some of our astronomy teachers give extra credit," Higgins said. "We get anywhere from 40 to 60 people – especially if the weather is nice."

Parking for the event will open after 4:30 p.m. Friday behind Wiser-Patton Science Hall.
