An afternoon of street preaching on the Keathley University Center Knoll led to the arrest of a student after a preacher fell off a concrete wall to the sidewalk, said Lieutenant Jim Fanguy of the MTSU Police Department.

MTSU police arrested Michaela Morales, a junior social work major, on suspicion of assault after preacher John McGlone fell Tuesday. Morales was taken to the Rutherford County Sherriff’s Office for processing.

“Based on witnesses and cell phone video of which we were made aware, we felt we had probable cause for the arrest,” Fanguy said.

Fanguy said Morales apparently pushed McGlone from the ledge where he talked to a crowd of about 200 around 2:45 p.m.

Students, including Morales, began crowding the ledge on which McGlone was standing. After Morales shouted, “Take your hands off my breasts,” McGlone fell to the ground.

Eyewitness accounts vary from Morales defending herself to McGlone being forcibly pushed by Morales from the crowded ledge, which was congested by protesters shouting at McGlone.

The official police report has yet to be released.

Bond for Morales was set at $2,500. Morales posted later that night.

At approximately 11 a.m., three men began preaching to students and passers-by, wearing shirts that read “Trust Jesus,” and “Jesus hates sin.” The men repeatedly told several members of the crowd that they were going to hell - specifically homosexuals, fornicators, God-haters, immodest women, drunks and the greedy.

Students began protesting the speakers and shouting down the men, eventually leading to the altercation at approximately 2:45 p.m. between McGlone and Morales.

McGlone fell from the cement outcropping after a brief struggle with Morales, at which point some students helped the man while others laughed. Shortly thereafter, several squad cars pulled up and officers dispersed the crowd.

McGlone lay on the sidewalk for a few moments, and soon after, medical units responded and assessed his injuries.

“I forgive her,” McGlone said as he walked away from the scene with police.

Immediately after the incident, Morales said, “Carry me,” to Officer Derrick Wharton, though she wouldn’t follow him for questioning initially. Officer Misty White led Morales to a squad car. Police spoke with Morales, frisked her and took her to the police station for further questioning.

McGlone and Kerrigan Skelly are members of PinPoint Evangelism, an organization based in central Kentucky. The third preacher present, Tracy Bays, is not a member of PinPoint Evangelism, but does accompany McGlone and Skelly to campuses.

All of the men had a permit for five hours of time at the Knoll, but students began yelling at the men soon after they began speaking to the crowds. The three men left before their time had expired.

A Law Abiding Non-Christian

The video of the situation--I know of one that exists, at the very least--clearly shows the proselytizer physically grabbing the student before she physically rebuffed him. End of story. This isn't about Christianity, as sorry of an example of the religion as it is, this is about assault.

I walked by this, and I honestly wanted to cry. I am a Christian, and I am completely in love with the Lord. I don't know who this so-called preacher was talking about, but it certainly wasn't MY God. My God is incapable of hate. He is Love, and hearing His word being so abused breaks my heart. It is people like this man that give my religion a bad name. It is not our place as Christians to judge; rather, we are to show the love of Jesus unconditionally to the world. It is so frustrating to me that we are so misrepresented. Please realize that not all "Christians" are like that.

Did anyone else notice that it doesn't look like the preacher's people helped him get up at all? That it was the "wicked sinners" that helped his hypocritical butt up? I'm glad the students of MTSU stood up against hypocracy. Shoving the preacher probably wasn't the best move, but I can understand the anger that would rise up from someone condemning one's way of life. Thou shall not judge, lest ye be judged...these fanatics always seem to forget this piece of advice.

Hey, does anyone have videos or pictures of the thing? If so, toss them up. I was there and it was unbelievable. The guy with the camera who was under the tree this morning told me I was going to hell for doing my job in Iraq. There you have it folks. Soldiers are going to hell for killing the enemy during a time of war.

What an utter failure. Preaching Christianity in that way is what drove ME to be an atheist. And of course, when someone stands up for herself, she gets carted off by the feds. What a country.

M.A.J., you were wrong on that last bit. I just transferred from UT. There were two guys who would stand on the sidewalk and preach the same way these guys were... with hate. Yes, it was offensive. One particular day when I was minding my own business, walking to class, one of the men picked me out, pointed at me specifically and proclaimed to everyone that I was a sinner and had a heart full of hate. Yeah, it pissed me off, but did I decided to turn around and assault the guy? Not once at UT, and these guys were there every day, did the students form a crowd and let it become a scene. I'm embarrassed to be associated with a group of students here that would be so childish. Honestly, if you know the man is wrong, then keep walking. There's no reason to start an altercation over one stranger's wrong opinion.

This is not the first time these gentlemen have been in the middle of a controversy on a college campus this fall. They have an entire Youtube channel full of videos where they have been everywhere spreading their "message." The following link is to a video of their brush with police at Campbellsville University. John McGlone was in the center of it all.....

we had freedom of speech today too. what they didnt have the right to do was verbally assault the students of MTSU as they did. When words like faggot are used, you have moved passed free speech and onto abuse we have an anti discrimination policy on campus and they crossed that line today. While I am sorry the man was pushed, i feel she had a right to defend herself against the sexual assault that man was doing to her. in conclusion, i would like to say how proud i am of my fellow classmates that they were willing to stand up and tell these men that their message of hate was not wanted on this campus. remember everyone God is Love and the message those men were spouting today is not Christianity

to the muslim girl, preaching sexual intolerance: the united states and the west will never, ever, "submit" to the supposed final chapter of the long, ridiculous history of monotheism.

there is a final chapter to religion. it is called reason.

I am a Christian. Free speech allows people to express their beliefs especially on a college campus. I listened to quite a bit of the altercations between everyone, and though I don't completely agree with the extreme stance the preacher was taking, some of the students were REALLY acting out of line and immature. As for the girl who assaulted him---she should be suspended permanently from MTSU AND spend time in a jail cell---the same amount of time anyone else would spend for assault. On behalf of MTSU--I apologize for our actions.

I was there today, from 1:00 to 2:45 when the incident took place, These "PREACHERS" were antagonizing the crowd of students! Trust me, I have video of it on my phone. He condemned people to hell for their sins. HELLO?! You can't just do that. Out of the three men there, only one was calm enough to talk to the students and try to discuss his point of view. The man in the glasses, who fell, was for 1) creating a disturbance by creating a CROWD in a walk way where there shouldn't be a crowd, 2) the police watched for a while, then left.. HELLO?! the crowd was getting bigger.. why didn't the campus police beAWARE of the situation.. 3) the preacher was pushed, but not after yelling to the crowd that we were all going to hell for our sins.

I'm sorry, but if you want to win me over with your bullshit of a religion, then please don't say what I'm doing is wrong. How on earth is that going to make me agree with you?

Done and Done.

comon people... they were both wrong.. you cant argue a correct point with two negatives!!!
repent is postive to preach, but its up to the individual to relay that messege in a way for all to understand. and clearly those girls that were lesbien (o god so disgusting) skipped their whole class period to make themselves look stupid concluding with the point that they will not repent!!!

ah there goes christiens for you..

and some people are so ignorant that they dont look at the picture clearly. there is a final chapter to the monothiest religon. its called ISLAM!! stop being ignorant!!!!

From what I understand, that preacher was being hateful, not Christlike, and it was Christian students yelling to make him stop being hateful in Christ's name

This is upsetting. I am ashamed to say I went to MTSU. There are many Christians are campus, and yet they do not speak up. They stay within their group, and watch as other groups take over the campus with their hate. When these preachers spoke up, regardless of what they were saying, they should have been able to have their full five hours. Instead of schoolyard bullying and fighting, debate and discussion would have been the collegiate thing to do. If they wanted to really stick it to these guys, why not come back with your viewpoint and try to back it up with research. Some people are too busy standing in their own way to see how ridiculous they have become. Case in point. I know one thing, I know I am proud of my friend who stepped down to help out the man that was assaulted. Regardless of her views, she knew assault isn't right and taking care of someone is. I want more friends like her.

The Jesus of the gospels was a largely mythological construction written some 70 years after he was supposed to have lived. The accounts are full of contradictions. The Christ Paul wrote about, in earlier epistles, was a spiritual revelation and he mentioned nothing at all of Jesus' earthly ministry. If Jesus did really exist, in any form, then his true teachings are now lost to us. To claim anything in his "name" in the 21st century is to ignore 2000 years of science, progress and human understanding.

Before you reply let me also add that I was a baptized Christian for nearly 40 years before coming to this realization, so I'm not just denouncing religion out of hand. And no one shouting on top of a wall helped me to make that decision.
