Letter to the Editor
To the Editor:
The recent events at Ft. Hood are horrible and inexcusable, but we must remember not to hold an entire group of people responsible for the actions of one man. Thousands of Muslims have served faithfully and honorably in our all-volunteer armed forces and will always continue to do so.
A call to arms
At this point, everyone has heard about the Fort Hood shooting incident that claimed thirteen U.S. soldiers’ lives and wounded 38 others.
The assailant, Army Maj. Nidal Malik Hasan, was allegedly disturbed about being deployed to Afghanistan.
The fact that Hasan was Muslim has been extensively covered to the point of being shoved down our throats.
The pen is mightier
Consumer advocates have been sounding the alarm for years that corporations have too much power over the markets in which they operate. Nowadays, the more chilling statements may be the ones they don’t make.
Thirteen states have so-called “veggie libel” laws on their books, at the behest of major food and chemical corporations.

Last Friday, professor Pamela Holder was convicted of bank and wire fraud charges, namely against homebuyers, the Bank of Nashville and First Tennessee Bank.
While it might be difficult to muster sympathy for corporate entities such as banks, the real victims here are the people whose finances were pilfered by Holder et al.
My point, and I do have one
Last Friday afternoon, I went and saw the brand new Hollywood interpretation of the end times, known as “2012.”
To be perfectly honest, I have been waiting for it to come out, because it looked amazing. Visually, it was absolutely fantastic. The first half of the movie sat better than the last half, though I will not give anything away to those who want to see it and have not yet.
Pearl before swine
You see them everywhere.
They tell you to buy certain products, they influence the politics and ideas of you and your friends, and their faces are plastered everywhere. Your friends are obsessed with them and you know their stories.
That’s right: celebrities.
Even Odds
Feeling healthy today?
I sure hope so because these days the state of our health care system is at its highest level of disappointment.
Whatever happened to the days when Dr. Pepper would come to your house and fix your broken finger for free because you were too much of an idiot to keep it out of the car door?
In our country, business is focused on making money and this does include our health care providers.
Dogood's Post
In early 2003, a conflict broke out between the indigenous tribes of Darfur and the Sudanese government. This conflict, or what has been called genocide, has had an impact around the world. Focusing specifically on the United States and the United Nations, I will address how each has, in surprising ways, dealt with this tragedy.
I'm just sayin'
Facebook, cell phones, video games, television. It could be said that we can never be bored with the limitless gadgets and options we are bombarded with to occupy ourselves.
If anyone has me added on Facebook, you’d know I’m on the Web site at least three hours a day. That’s 1,095 hours a year or 45 days out of the year.

This past Saturday, MTSU honored veterans with the dedication of their Veterans’ Memorial Wall, located outside of the Tom H. Jackson Building.
The university should be commended for its nod to veterans, both past and present. More importantly, it should be commended for the welcoming attitude to future veterans.
