MMA set to host championship fights tonight

MTSU's Mixed Martial Arts Association is set to host three championship fights at the Murphy Center tonight.

The event is being promoted by Middle Tennessee Ultimate Fighting, and will feature fighters from around the country with varying levels in their MMA careers.

In the main event, Murfreesboro native and MT graduate student, Mike Hackney (5-0), will get a shot at the 185-pound title against Chattanooga's Jessie Grun.

The International Sport Karate Association has sanctioned three bouts for the 125-pound, 155-pound and 185-pound titles, respectively.

The 125-pound fight features Lebanon's Justin Pennington (6-2) taking on Chattanooga native David James (6-0).

The 155-pound fight features a Murfreesboro native and MT graduate student Monty Burke taking on Clarksville's Charles Castillo.

Also scheduled are at least 10 preliminary bouts. Doors open at 5:30 and will feature a meet-and-greet with Ultimate Fighting Championship veteran, Ken Shamrock.
