Vigil honors life of deceased fraternity brother
With their candles lit, students huddled around Greek Row Tuesday night to celebrate the life of Jacob Nunley, a freshman member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon who passed away Sept. 10 from bacterial meningitis.
“We are holding this candlelight vigil to get the student body out to show support of the Greek community and the students of MTSU,” said Brandon Lasso, junior marketing major and Alpha Tau Omega brother. “Tonight is more of a reflection for the students and Jacob’s fraternity brothers.”
As one of the primary speakers for the vigil, Britt Pettigrew from Greek Cru, tried to encourage the crowd and shared what he had heard about Nunley’s life.
“I want the Greek life community to know that we are behind them in their time of loss,” Pettigrew said. “I just wanted to share a few things that I heard about him. From what I have heard, he brought life to wherever he went and was welcoming and friendly to folks.”
Students also revealed their thoughts and feelings about Nunley.
“He was my best friend, and he was a part of this fraternity,” said John Troy, sophomore physical therapy major. “I am just really going to miss him.”
